Why Public Education
Why Public Education?
Growing up, I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. I had many other career ideas, but that one was usually at the top of the list. I’ve always viewed public education as one of the most valuable things to a young person, and I know that a strong education system can shape them into a person with great potential. Even though I loved the idea of education, by the end of high school, I needed a little break and wanted to travel. However, instead of doing that, I went straight into college. My heart wasn’t in it, and being there left me a little jaded about education in general, so I dropped out for a few years to find myself. A few years later, my passion for school was reignited. Three years and one degree later, I have been given the opportunity to work in public education through Nichols Strategies. Everything came full circle for me, and I’m excited to help in the field I’ve always cared so much for.
Public School Flashback
I didn’t do a whole lot in public school. I avidly avoided sports, clubs, and other extracurriculars like the plague. That was until I heard they were gearing up for the spring musical. That year was going to be Fiddler on the Roof, a classic! I’ve always wanted to get into the theater, but I was timid back then, and I had this silly inclination that others would judge me for doing so. I talked with the person organizing the musical, our school’s theater teacher, and expressed my interest and trepidations. The amount of kindness she gave me through that conversation has never left me. She was encouraging and validating, giving me the confidence to try out. That little moment may not have changed my life, but it meant a lot to me at the time, and it’s one of my favorite school memories. And in case you were wondering, I got the role of the innkeeper.
