Dr. Michele Bowers’ nearly 30-year career in education has a proven track record of leadership, innovation, and equity. Born and raised in Southern California, she actively advocates for students and families to elevate their voices, empowering them to navigate educational systems and institutions of higher learning successfully.
Dr. Bowers is the first woman and African American to be appointed Superintendent of Lancaster School District in Lancaster, Calif., where she successfully served for 10 years. During her tenure in Lancaster, she launched many initiatives to benefit the health and welfare of the entire community, including programs such as a Welcome and Wellness Center, a Dual Language Immersion Program, and more. The culmination of her experience and passion for education led her to launch Vital Educational Leadership Consulting (ELC) in July 2022 to train, coach, and support educational leaders, teachers, and support staff.
Public School Flashback
A native Californian, I was born and raised in Southern California. Though I had encouragement and support at home and school, I did find that not all educators had high expectations for me. This inspired me more to fully commit to become an agent of change to improve experiences, support, and outcome for all children in our public school system.
